Vanessa-Mae also released in May 2001 a new landmark Pop CD of all new music. Visit the updated Discography page for details. Also available are details of Vanessa's latest Classical release,.. that is,.. the re-issue of her 3 early Classical works, all in 1 fabulous 3-CD box set. Vanessa-Mae,a young violinist, now twenty-four, took the world by storm when she was just sixteen with the release of her first 'pop' album: *The Violin Player*. Touted as a 'Child Prodigy' many in the Classical community were excited with this new exciting star who had already released 3 Classical CD's when she was 12 & 13, had toured with orchestras and participated in many TV appearances with professional aplomb. It was early 1995 when Vanessa strongly came onto the music scene with her hugely successful Pop CD, 'Then Violin Player'. The Classical elitist were appalled that their prodigy had released a 'Pop' CD packaged as Classical. But the world soon fell in Love with Vanessa and her brand of Music, a blend of Classical, Pop and Jazz. Vanessa mesmerized audiences with her compositions and charismatic personality. Vanessa also dressed to kill causing an additional uproar from a few stodgy Classical elitists, But it is her mastery of the violin, which left listeners in awe. Born on October 27th, 1978, to a Thai father and Chinese mother, Vanessa spent the first three years of her childhood in Singapore where she wasborn. At three Vanessa moved to London with her mother, and still resides in London. Apart from the violin, which she took it up at age five, she also played the piano, beginning at age three. Vanessa's first performance was atage nine. She proceeded to do her master in harmony. She played with the Philharmonie Orchestra when she was ten. She also had three classical recordings under her belt by the time she was thirteen. Vanessa was fourteen when she started working on 'The Violin Player'. The album ran up the charts in over twenty countries, shortly after its release. In 1996, she was nominated for the 'Best Female Artist' in the BRIT Awards, anaward based in the UK. Vanessa is the first instrumentalist and classical musicianto be nominated for this award, which is voted for being a mainstream pop award. Vanessa has indeed come a long way to be what she is today. To date, Vanessa has released a number of both Classical and Pop albums. Vanessa's most recent release is a 'Best of Vanessa-Mae' collection which includes the never released song 'Art of War' and as a bonus a video montage set to 'Art of War'.Vanessa has also added singing to her repertoire, adding her voice to a number of tracks on her 2001 'Subject to Change' release. Her first vocal vertures though were on the well received 'Storm' and 'I'm a Doun' singles. As Vanessa progressed from child prodogy to independent adulthood both she and her music have matured. The personal strength and dynamic presence of Vaness-Mae are clear indicators of a musician who has fully arrived and is here to stay. In 1997, Hong Kong honored Vanessa by inviting her as a guest to perform with top billing at the World Televised Hong Kongto China Re-unification Ceremony, making her the only non-native to appear in the ceremony. This visit prompted the release of the CD 'China Girl', in an attempt to explore her Chinese roots and honor the passing of her beloved Chinese grandfather when she was fifteen. To her, the violin is like a voicewith an incredible soaring ability, withincredible emotions. She regarded it as a pet with a cuddly and affectionatefeeling when she was a child. The violin, now, however has grown from a pet to a partner in the music business. The Red Hot Vanessa-Mae Homepage (VMH) Team would like to thankyou all for visiting this site during the year!
